Effective January 1, 2018
Effective January 1, 2018, NACTRC will be collecting ethics review fees on behalf of the Health Research Ethics Board (HREB) in an effort to simplify the research administration processes for industry sponsored clinical trials. The impending change serves two purposes:
- NACTRC negotiates and is aware of the completion of clinical trial agreements and is therefore in the best position to initiate invoicing.
- It is important that fees charged for HREB review are not seen as payment for the HREB’s approval to conduct a study. Removing invoicing from the Research Ethics Office reduces the potential for a perceived conflict of interest.
How does this impact researchers?
The only change researchers will see is that the invoice for the HREB review fee will be sent out and collected by NACTRC instead of by the Office of the Vice-President (Research) or the Research Ethics Office.
